American professional wrestler John Cena is perhaps a fan of India cricket captain Virat Kohli. Three years ago, he had abruptly posted a picture of a cheering Kohli on his Instagram account with the ‘Bleed Blue’ slogan written behind. And he did the same again on Saturday after India beat Sri Lanka in their final league game at the cricket World Cup by 7 wickets to finish at the top of the points table.
The latest picture that 42-year-old Cena posted on Instagram had an element of curiosity. In the picture, Kohli is seen walking towards somebody to shake his hand with, presumably a player from the Lankan side. But since that other person was not seen, the picture gave an impression that Cena himself was at the other end, John Cena’s slogan “You Can’t See Me”, – invisible and shaking hands with the India captain.
INDIA THRASHED SRI LANKA BY 7 WICKETS
The picture also featured a smiling Rohit Sharma, who hit his third consecutive and overall fifth in the tournament during the game, and head coach Ravi Shastri and Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav who were also about the greet the opponent players. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat to score 264 for 7 in 50 overs. India rode centuries from Rohit (103) and his opening partner KL Rahul (111) to win by seven wickets. Kohli remained not out at the end with 34 from 41 balls. Hardik Pandya was the other unbeaten batsman.
Cena’s interesting picture of Kohli got a lot of traction on the social media platform with the cricketers’ fans chipping in to react. In between, they also bashed those who failed to recognise Kohli and called him a “random Indian” because of the blue jersey that he is wearing.
By the virtue of their win over the Lankans and Australia’s loss to South Africa in their final league match at Old Trafford on the same day, India finished at the top with 15 points and will now play New Zealand in the first semi-final at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Australia will take on England in the second semi-final on July 11 and the winners of the two semi-finals will meet each other at Lord’s on July 14.
