India’s journey in World Cup 2019 came to a disappointing end as New Zealand beat the Men in Blue by 18 runs in the first semifinal to dump them out of the competition. This was the second time in a row that India exited the World Cup at the semifinal exit. India’s top-order just could not turn up on the big day which eventually became the reason for the team’s exit.
India were looking well on their way to the final after restricting New Zealand to a modest 239 for 8. The target was tricky but given the form the Indian batsmen were in, it looked like they would not have much problem. However, the cricketing world was about to get a big shock as the Indian top-order was back in the hut even before the fans could settle down for India’s innings.
BCCI Strict Action For Team Performance:
India soon found themselves 4 down for 24 and then 6 down for 92. The game looked very much over at that moment before Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni revived India’s hopes with a crucial 116 run stand for the seventh wicket. The two mixed caution with aggression to keep India in hunt but lost their wickets at crucial junctures of the game and India were eventually all out for 221.
Jadeja and Dhoni scored fighting fifties but their efforts were not just enough to take India across the line. Dhoni’s knock was cut short in the penultimate over of India’s run-chase courtesy of a direct hit from Martin Guptill. Dhoni was caught inches short of the crease at the striker’s end and with his dismissal which left the tailenders with a lot to do, the writing was pretty much on the walls for Team India.
Following India’s defeat, images of a crying photographer started circulating on social media claiming that even the cameraman on the ground couldn’t stop himself and cried on Dhoni’s dismissal. The picture was nothing but a collage showing the crying photographer and MS Dhoni leaving the field after his dismissal trying to imply that the former was heartbroken after the latter’s dismissal.

The viral picture however has nothing to do with Dhoni getting out on his final World Cup appearance. The picture is, in fact, from the Asian Cup 2019, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Asia organised by the Asian Football Confederation. The man in tears is actually an Iraqi photojournalist who cried on the defeat of Iraq in the AFC Asian Cup football tournament 2019.
The photographer’s name is Mohammed al-Azzawi, who was supporting his team during the Asian Cup Round of 16 match. Qatar went on to win the championship, beating Japan in the final. The tournament took place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from January 5 to February 1. The photo of the photographer was posted by the official Twitter handle of the Asian Cup.
