Prithvi Shaw leaves India to fight depression after being banned by BCCI

Prithvi Shaw, once primed for a bright future as an India opener, is now at the receiving end of many critics, specially in the wake of the doping ban imposed on him by the BCCI last month. The BCCI has handed him an eight-month ban for an ‘inadvertent’ doping offence.

The board, in its report release, stated that the Mumbai batsman had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI’s anti-doping testing program during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on February 22 this year in Indore. His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline, a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

According to a report in the Times of India, Shaw has been left devastated by the recent turn of developments and has been hit by mental depression. In a bid to stay away from the ‘noise’, the youngster has jetted off to England on his own personal expense.

Meanwhile, the BCCI released a detailed timeline for Shaw’s doping controversy, covering events from late February to July this year. The timeline showed a gap of more than two months between his sample collection and the final report from National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).

Shaw will serve an eight-month ban backdated to March 16 that will end on November 15. Shaw accepted the suspension imposed by the BCCI and had released a statement regarding the same in which he had urged the other youngsters to be careful while taking any medicine.

Prithvi Shaw rose to prominence after his successful stint as a skipper in the U-19 World Cup 2018. His form fetched a test call-up where he trashed Carribean bowlers to the nook and corner of the stadium. He ended the two match test series as the highest run-scorer winning the player of the tournament award.

However, when everyone expected him to play the Australia series, an injury forced an early exit. He had earlier pulled out of India A’s unofficial One-Day and Test series against West Indies A due to injury. He will not be under the selection radar until November 15.
